Community Food Pantry
Since the Fall of 2004 our church has housed the
Community Food Pantry. We serve all of the Apple Creek
community and most of Southeast School District. We
call this an “EMERGENCY” food pantry! It is meant to
help you get by to the end of the month when your
dollars won’t stretch any further, you fall on hard
times, or you need time to make financial arrangements
from the loss of a job.
We
receive our food from food drives held by the Student
Council at Waynedale High School and John R. Lea Middle
School every Fall. Other resources have been The
Fairlawn Mennonite Church, 4-H Clubs, Girl Scout
Troops, and many individual donations of food and
money.
We
take what we call three days worth of food, but it will
last more than three days. We take 3 main dinner items,
spaghetti noodles and spaghetti sauce, egg noodles with
cream of mushroom soup and a can of tuna, boxed macaroni
and cheese. Then we add breakfast foods, a box of
cereal and complete pancake mix with syrup. Everyone
gets peanut butter and jelly. We always bring at least
2 cans of soup, 3 cans of vegetables and maybe some
fruit. Then we top it off with other things that have
been donated. We also take fresh items like milk,
bread, butter and eggs. If you need any taxable items
we may be able to purchase those also.
All
you need to do is call the church office at
330-698-3101. If you get the answering machine please
leave your name and number and someone will get back
with you as soon as possible. The person calling you
back will ask certain questions about the needs of your
family, like if there are any allergies, how many
children, and what ages? Arrangements are then made to
get the food to you. We can deliver it to your door or
you may pick it up.
Janet Kaufman.
